The latest need-to-know AI news 📣

A roundup of updates, launches, and more!

Hey AI Puppies,

You’ve been following along to learn the ins and outs of the best AI tools on the market. But that’s only half the fun of training up your AI skills!

With the AI landscape changing each and every day, tracking the latest news and getting excited for the Next Big Thing is just as fun using AI itself 👏

If it feels like you’re exploring uncharted territory, it’s because you are. No matter how AI evolves from here, we’ll always be the very first group of people who started using it!

In this week’s AI Puppy training newsletter, we’re catching up on the latest AI news. From brand new products to improvements to your go-tos to teasers for future launches, there’s a lot to get excited about:

✅A ‘memory’ boost for ChatGPT

✅A re-launch for Google’s ChatGPT rival

✅Slack’s new AI features

✅Cloud-less AI with Nvidia

✅Two tools for eCommerce pros

✅OpenAI’s upcoming video tool

There’s a lot to unpack today, so let’s get into it ⚡

ChatGPT’s Memory Revamp

Until now, you only had two ways to give ChatGPT a rundown of you, your role, and your goals: reminding it at the beginning of every chat, or setting up custom instructions.

But with the release of OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT update, the tool now has an automatic ‘memory.’ Per WIRED:

“Now, ChatGPT’s memory persists across multiple chats. The service will also remember personal details about a ChatGPT user even if they don’t make a custom instruction or tell the chatbot directly to remember something; it just picks up and stores details as conversations roll on. This will work across both the free (ChatGPT 3.5) and paid (ChatGPT 4) version.”

Apart from the time this update will save users (no more typing out background information again and again), this also means that ChatGPT responses are about to get way more advanced!

You will also be able to ‘Manage Memory,’ essentially tweaking what AI remembers about you:

You’ll automatically be opted-in by default, but you can also turn it off manually or wipe everything at any time!

Out with the Bard, in with the Gemini

When Google launched its ChatGPT competitor Bard, it didn’t gain the momentum the company was hoping for.

But late last week, Google announced an official Bard rebrand, changing the name to Gemini. There are a lot of changes, and they’re admittedly a bit confusing. Here’s a rundown:

👉In addition to the Gemini name, you’ll also notice a new logo, website, and apps.

👉There’s now a premium, paid Gemini version called Ultra, billed as their top AI model.

👉You can get Ultra with Gemini Advanced, which you can get with a Google One subscription.

👉Gemini will be the primary assistant on Android phones, replacing Google Assistant.

👉Google’s Duet AI tools are now Gemini for Google Workspace and Google Cloud.

Although the chat features will remain mostly the same, these other updates promise a brighter future for Gemini!

Slack Enters the AI Arena

Google and OpenAI aren’t the only ones ramping things up.

Slack, the workplace management platform, just announced the launch of Slack AI, a suite of AI tools that enable users to ask questions to catch up on anything happening over Slack.

“Slack AI harnesses the power of proprietary context – past projects, data, and conversations – to give users personalized, intelligent answers to their questions with citations to relevant messages.”

In action, it could look like this:

“With a simple prompt like ‘What is project X?’ a user can learn about a particular project’s goals, timeline, and stakeholders involved.”

Companies in the US and UK with Slack Enterprise can already start using it! Here’s what it looks like:

For Computer Nerds: Nvidia Chat with RTX

Are you tech-savvy? Do you prefer customized tools? You might be interested in Chat with RTX, a ChatGPT-style application from Nvidia that works with your local data, making it one of the few cloud-free chatbots on the market.

There’s a catch, however. Per Tom’s Hardware:

“The only real drawback with "Chat with RTX" is its sky-high system requirements and huge download size, particularly when compared with cloud solutions. You'll need an RTX 30-series GPU or later with at least 8GB of VRAM and Windows 10 or 11 to run it.”

If you’re up for the challenge, here’s how to make a personalized AI chatbot with Chat with RTX:

For eCommerce Pros: Rufus + Google Cloud

Do any of our AI puppies work in e-commerce? If so, we have two pieces of news to share.

🐾First, back in January, Google added a new generative AI tool to Google Cloud specifically catered to online retailers.

“The suite of new products includes a generative AI-powered chatbot that retailers can use on websites and mobile apps. The virtual agents can talk to consumers and offer product recommendations based on shoppers’ preferences.”

It might be worth adding to your storefront!

🐾Second, earlier this month, Amazon released Rufus, an AI-powered chatbot designed to improve customers' shopping experience.

“Rufus is an expert shopping assistant trained on Amazon’s product catalog and information from across the web to answer customer questions on shopping needs, products, and comparisons, make recommendations based on this context, and facilitate product discovery in the same Amazon shopping experience customers use regularly.”

If you sell anything on Amazon, you might want to adjust your descriptions to match Rufus. Here’s the FAQ from the company, with a preview of Rufus himself:

Looking Ahead: OpenAI’s New Video Generator

We saved the best news for last: OpenAI released a teaser for Sora, a generative video tool. It’s not yet available to users, and may not be for some time, but the previews are already mind-blowing.

Check out this 15-second clip, which was created with the prompt ‘Beautiful, snowy Tokyo city is bustling. The camera moves through the bustling city street, following several people enjoying the beautiful snowy weather and shopping at nearby stalls. Gorgeous sakura petals are flying through the wind along with snowflakes’:

Other video generators don’t even come close!

If you’re counting down til its release, don’t hold your breath. Per MIT Technology Review:

“OpenAI has not released a technical report or demonstrated the model actually working. And it says it won’t be releasing Sora anytime soon.”
