A closer look at AI Chatbots šŸ¤–

Why they matter, how to use them, & what’s new from ChatGPT

Hey AI Puppies,

There’s only one thing evolving faster than AI: ⚔the conversation surrounding its impact ⚔

Struggling to keep up? You’re far from alone. For something that’s moving this quickly, it’ll take a bit of extra training to adapt to the changes šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

This week, we’re spending some time with a deep dive into something that comes up in every article, post, or tutorial about AI: a ā€˜chatbot’ or ā€˜agent.’

Unsure why they matter? What this element of AI even is? How to use them to your advantage?

Don’t worry, puppies! Now is a great time to get up to speed – OpenAI just released some major chatbot news, so keep reading for:

āœ…A look at OpenAI’s latest chatbot announcement

āœ…Examples of chatbots and agents in the workplace

āœ…New chatbots that aim to rival ChatGPT

Let’s get into it!

OpenAI’s Chatbot Extravaganza

Let’s begin with a quick refresher on the AI Chatbot.

šŸ‘‰Generative AI can take many forms, but the chatbot is the version of generative AI that took the world by storm about one year ago. That’s right – ChatGPT, and any AI that simulates a conversation, is a chatbot.

šŸ‘‰But ChatGPT is actually the broadest kind of chatbot there is. You can talk to it about anything you want, but we’re starting to see more chatbots crop up with more niche specialties.

šŸ‘€And we’re about to see a whole lot more specialized chatbots hit the market šŸ‘€

This new feature will be:

🐾Entirely no-code, meaning you don’t have to have coding knowledge to make or use a custom GPT

🐾Available exclusively for ChatGPT Plus subscribers

🐾Accessibly through the GPT store via OpenAI, giving it an Apple App Store-like feel

To demo the new function, OpenAI shared examples with reporters of niche bots like…

āœļøā€œCreative Writing Coachā€ for critiquing users’ writing

šŸ“…ā€Event Navigatorā€ where attendees to specific events can ask questions about the schedule, speakers, etc

šŸ³ā€Sous Chefā€ for getting inspo, instructions, and help with at-home cooking

Here’s Sous Chef in action:

So, what does this news mean for you? šŸ¤”

šŸ“£Big-picture, this update will make AI chatbots about as accessible, diverse, and applicable as smartphone apps, underscoring how influential AI will be in the years to come.

On an individual level, here are just a few ways this could play out for the average person:

šŸ’”Business owners and leaders can make custom bots for their organizations quickly and easily

šŸ’”Students, workers, and everyone in between will be able to source expert advice on niche topics

šŸ’”Entrepreneurs can leverage custom GPTs to launch their biz

Cheers to the future, puppies!

Chatbots in the Workplace

You don’t have to have crazy technical skills in order to make the most of AI chatbots in the workplace.

Here are some examples of how AI agents and chatbots can be used by individuals to make their work easier:

šŸ’¬Research assistance: if you spend a lot of time browsing the web for news, trends, data, and creative inspiration, use chatbots like Scite, Elicit, and Jasper to find information faster, brainstorm ideas, and consider research avenues you’d never think of on your own.

šŸ’¬Reading documents: instead of keyword searching giant files for specific information, uploading documents to chatbots like ChatGPT, TLDR This, PDFgear Chatbot, and Jasper enables you to ask questions and get answers about your own content.

šŸ’¬Writing emails, memos, & more: if you get stuck on how to word emails and communicate at work, use a chatbot like Claude, Anyword, Writesonic, or Jasper to ask for help, get ideas, and receive reliable edits.

Here’s a quick example using Claude:

From an operational or customer-facing perspective, AI chatbots can be a great way to improve – you guessed it – chatbots šŸ¤–

Chatbots to Watch

Will any AI company ever come close to rivaling OpenAI and ChatGPT? It may not seem like it now (especially now that custom GPTs are on the way), but the tech industry isn’t ready to give up the fight quite yet.

If you’re all about chatbots, here’s the latest news from the space:

šŸ’ŖSamsung just announced that its own ChatGPT rival, Gauss, is in the testing stage and will focus on producing ā€˜creative alternatives’

šŸ’ŖElon Musk announced that he’s working on Grok, another ChatGPT rival that will be trained on data from X (formerly known as Twitter)

šŸ’ŖGoogle Bard has been around since March 2023 and stands out for its use of Google web results (as opposed to ChatGPT’s use of Bing results)

šŸ’ŖMicrosoft Bing Chat has been around since February and offers direct internet search and web browser integration

We’re not betting pups, but if we were, we’d have our eyes on the chatbot race šŸ‘€

Your Next Assignment

šŸŽIf you haven’t tried using a chatbot at work, you know what to do: find one task you feel comfortable asking AI for help with, and see what a chatbot can do for you! As always, remember to keep any sensitive company data out of the chat.

šŸŽIf you’re already a chatbot pro, we challenge you to come up with an idea for a custom chatbot you could develop with the new OpenAI feature
